Praxis Core, Praxis, Praxis II, Oh my!

Praxis Core -- This test is needed to be admitted to the certification program. This is the case for both CEAS and CQ. So you need this whether or not you are a US Citizen. Link to ETS info about this test: https://www.ets.org/praxis/about/core/content/ and here http://tcnjbkk.blogspot.com/2016/07/admission-requirements-effective-92015.html

In order to be exempted from the Praxis Core you need the following:
SAT – Math 570, 610 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing or 30 Reading Section
ACT – Math 23, English 23 – Composite scores are not accepted. Each section has to be at least 23
GRE – Quantitative 156, Verbal 155
*If a candidate completed and passed the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST / Praxis I) prior to June 2014, the Department will accept passing scores on those exams to satisfy the basic skills requirement (passing scores on the PPST are as follows: Reading: 175, Math: 174, Writing: 173).

Praxis -- When you hear folks talk about the Praxis they often mean the Elementary Praxis for your initial certification. All Elementary CEAS (US Citizens) candidates (K-6) need this test (#5001)

Praxis II: Sometimes folks will use the term "Praxis II" to refer to subject area test that are taken when you want an endorsement in a particular content area. These are the tests that Secondary CEAS (US Citizens) candidates take.
Link to info about these tests: https://www.ets.org/praxis/nj/requirements

Principals: Candidates for School Leaders take test #6011(https://www.ets.org/praxis/nj/requirements)

IMPORTANT: When you take the Praxis or Praxis II you must have your scores sent to the STATE of NEW JERSEY (R7666). This is very important. Many students send them to The College of New Jersey, which makes sense -- but it is incorrect. Scores must be sent to the STATE of NJ R7666 when you choose from the dropdown menu on the date you sit for the test. Praxis Core scores can be scanned and sent directly to szcarrol@tcnj.edu.

Then... when your scores come in, take a photo or scan of your score report and send that to Tabitha (dellange@tcnj.edu). When we have your score report in hand, we can complete your file and send it for your official licensure.
