2019: Newsletter V1 N1

Welcome to another summer with your TCNJ family! This year, I am trying this newsletter instead of the blog we have been using for years. But, since the blog still has a lot of important information on it, I am including the link to it here TCNJ BKK Blog and we may still refer to it sometimes. Please feel free to let me know what you think of this way of communicating information while we are together for the summer session.

Community Information

* Our classes run from 8:30a to 3:30p each day. Your individual courses may have varying schedule for worktime, breaks, lunch, etc.
* If you use Facebook, consider joining the TCNJ Bangkok Facebook page. Lots of alum keep in touch and share news about job opportunities. Also, social events are sometimes posted there.

Wanna Play?

You will definitely work hard while you are here. That's a good thing! And, you need to take care of yourself as well. Make time to hang out with friends, get a massage, and to play. Research suggests a rise in mental health disorders that may be related to a decline in play in children and adolescents. Adults even play less. But, I believe that we all need to play. [Decline of Play TED Talk]  A few opportunities we have right now are:
* Football/Soccer -- Tuesday and Thursday at NIST from 4-6pm
* Burpee challenge (see below)
* Upcoming movie night
* Take a cooking class together (more details soon)
* Visit a floating market with classmates (more details soon)
* On-site mini massages during session 3.

Advising

If your questions are specific to the ESL program, please seek out Dr. Wu. He will be here just for Session 1. Everyone else should come to see me [Tabitha] before you leave Bangkok. I will be teaching during session 1 but in sessions 2 and 3 my meeting availability will be very open.
Here are a few quick nuts and bolts those of you seeking certification need:
* Here is the link you need to apply for your certification: https://certification.tcnj.edu/global-students-only/
* Here is a post from our Blog that talks about the Praxis tests http://tcnjbkk.blogspot.com/2017/06/praxis-core-praxis-praxis-ii-oh-my.html

Commencement

As I begin to prepare for commencement, I need your help. Each year, some of our students perform during commencement and one or two of our graduates say a few words. Please let me know if you would be interested in performing and if you would like to nominate someone to be our graduation speaker (self-nominations are accepted too). Nominations and Performance Info accepted here: https://tcnj.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_ePX09yn2QmWcCrP
